Ministry of Interior

LOCATION: DOHA, QATAR
USE: GOVERNMENTAL
SCOPE: FAÇADE & LANDSCAPE LIGHTING DESIGN
YEAR: 2009

The main concept for this project was the use of two different light tones, to differentiate mass portions and show the rich geometric composition. The chosen color temperatures were warm white (2000°K) which belongs to an early sunrise light, and cool white (6500°K) which resembles direct noon sunlight.

The mass bodies are floodlighted with warm white, focusing on enhancing the walls’ textures and showing the general volumetric configuration. Cool white light was then used for the coronation, giving the architectural elements a sparkling effect, derived from the concept of a series of crowns on top of the building.

The result is a graceful combination of cool and warm tones, which emphasizes the traditional Arabic architectural details but still allows the building to impose on its surroundings.
