Estidama Mosque. Awarded Lighting Excellence at LIT Awards 2025

We are proud to share that LIT Awards 2025 has recognised Estidama Mosque in two categories:

Energy Saving Lighting Systems
Religious and Spiritual Site Lighting Design

Located in Masdar City, the project brings faith and sustainability into one cohesive lighting narrative.

The exterior is defined through precise uplighting that reveals the mosque’s geometry with restraint. The architecture is legible. The night presence is calm. Nothing competes with the form itself.

Inside, light filters through mashrabiya screens, shaping spatial rhythm and atmosphere. The prayer hall is organised around a careful balance between daylight and artificial light. Five sculptural skylights draw natural light deep into the space throughout the day. As daylight fades, recessed luminaires articulate the ceiling plane, discreet uplights honour the calligraphy, and indirect coves reinforce the depth and volume of the skylights.

Warm dimmable LED sources and integrated sensors ensure energy efficiency while maintaining a contemplative environment aligned with the spiritual use of the space.

The Paradise Garden extends the experience outdoors. Low level lighting traces paths, water features and planting, supporting orientation while preserving a sense of calm.

Estidama Mosque reflects a deliberate approach to lighting design. Sustainable. Precise. Spiritually grounded.
