When Dubai Parks and Resorts Project Management found the need to completely redesign the lighting for the entire Motiongate Dubai, they looked to Patrick Gallegos and his team at Gallegos Lighting Design and their 35 years of experience to make this happen a mere 15 months before opening. Based in California USA but working internationally, GLD is known for creating immersive and engaging lighting environments, not only for theme parks but also for aquaria, museums, exhibits, resorts and streetscapes.

Patrick and GLD designers reviewed, laid out and specified every fixture for all public spaces for the 130,000 m2 Phase 1 park (excluding Lionsgate).  This included streets, landscaping, facades, 25 attractions, 7 highly thematic restaurants and 15 shopping venues.

The GLD team then moved into final aiming and programming direction of lighting to create the proper moods and timing for each area, working closely with project contractors and lighting integration specialist.

While the entire park was notable, the Themed Entertainment Association selected the Dreamworks Animation building to receive the prestigious ‘Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement’ at a gala black tie event at Disneyland California; the equivalent of an Oscar in the immersive experience industry.
