Gran Meliá Hotel

LOCATION: JEDDAH, KSA
USE: HOSPITALITY
SCOPE: INTERNAL, FAÇADE & LANDSCAPE LIGHTING DESIGN

The interior lighting is layered and multidimensional. Ambiance, task and accent lighting strategies complement each other to achieve a relaxed yet sophisticated setting. A striking difference between light and shadow adds depth and quality to the spaces, with seamless integration of the lighting equipment into the architecture and furniture. Optical control of the light beams makes this even more appealing by emphasizing target elements and avoiding uncontrolled light spill.

For the façade lighting an arrangement of light pockets was introduced to the vertical fins to accentuate these main design elements. Continuous walls on several floors were grazed softly, which can be viewed from a medium distance. Lastly, the top frame was washed to create a visual beacon, which can be seen from afar, allowing the tower to work as a landmark within the vicinity.
